GETTING SHIP-SHAPE Following an extensive winter refit which Sam and the team at Britannia have kept themselves very busy with, PROFILE was back in business for a day’s sailing with Diamond Advertising and Preferred Hotels in support of Hospitality Action. This kind generosity from Piers Bracher and Peter Haig is much appreciated and they we justly rewarded with beautiful weather! |

Profile takes to the water…
Profile Sailing’s founder Mark Norris, thanked everyone involved in the building process and shared his future vision the project, introducing Connie Carroll who talked with passion about Sail4Cancer’s work. Further good news came from Simon Boulding, Marketing Manager of Britannia Corporate Events who announced that Corum Watches had been confirmed at the official timekeeping sponsor for the Profile Sailing Cup together with The Dorchester as our 'Lifestyle Partner' Before the official naming ceremony was conducted by Mark’s wife Gail, he explained the tradition of Champagne being poured over the bow to appease King Neptune and a branch with green leaves on the deck, was to ensure a safe return each time the boat sails.; also the hope that Profile would be a happy ship, to be cared for by good fortune, to be a proud yet modest winner, and to sail safely at all times. Naming 'PROFILE', Gail added '“May God bless her & all who sail in her'. |
| January 2007: | Sir Keith MILLS, the British businessman who ran London’s victorious bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, has announced he is to create a new British America’s Cup sailing team. The team, to be named ORIGIN, will comprise some of the world’s leading sailors and boat designers from Great Britain and beyond. The name ORIGIN is a reference to Britain’s involvement in the creation of the America’s Cup in 1851. Rod CARR, Chief Executive of the Royal Yachting Association, commented, 'British sailing has never been more successful than it is today. We are the world’s strongest sailing nation; our Olympic medal count is higher than any other British sport, whilst ocean racing heroes such as Dame Ellen MACARTHUR and Dee CAFFARI have ruled the waves. In my view there are three peaks in competitive racing. Britain has already scaled the heights in the Olympic and offshore arena and I believe we have the talent and expertise to create a winning America’s Cup team.' |
